Frogs of Sydney Harbour

Tree Frogs, Family Hylidae

The species in the Tree frog family vary greatly in body form and habits. They range from arboreal species with expanded discs on the digits to assist in climbing, to more robust terrestrial species with comparatively narrower digits. The two species that best show this diversity of form and behaviour are the Green Tree Frog, Litoria caerulea and the Green and Golden Bell Frog, Litoria aurea. Both species were once widespread in the Sydney region and both have suffered serious declines in the face of urban development.
