Heath

Exposed rocky surfaces covered with a thin layer of poor soils provide a thick layer of hardy heath. It is the habitat of nectar-feeding honeyeaters like the Eastern Spinebill Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris and the New Holland Honeyeater, as well as the insectivorous thornbills and Chestnut-rumped Hylacola Hylacola pyrrhopygia. Locally endemic, the Rockwarbler Origma solitaria still inhabits sandstone escarpments along river areas. Garigal National Park, Dobroyd Head and North Head are all good examples of heath habitat where you might expect to see these species.
